Welcome. I started blogging about donuts to coincide with the 2016 presidential inauguration. Initially, I explained my obsession with donuts like this: “they’re delicious, it's silly, and in a world so riddled with serious issues, donuts provide comic, tasty relief.” Over the last few years I have come to realize that a love of donuts is universal and can translate and enable dialogue across cultural, political, economic class, and gender lines. I haven’t met a cab or LYFT driver who was not willing to engage in a discussion about donuts—which gradually evolved into other topics. So, with that, I’d like your help. Please share your donut experiences with me (at wendonutopia@gmail.com) and while you’re munching on donuts, use that experience as an opportunity to listen to others' points of view. It works.

I had visited Dough in 2016 before my donut obsession fully took hold, so there was no write-up.  I revisited this wondrous donut emporium recently in the UrbanSpace Vanderbilt--an upscale food hall where Dough owns and operates a prominent kiosk. Generally, I aim to visit the actual donut shoppes, but this particular kiosk seemed to have quite a full inventory; and our schedule would not allow us to easily get to the other locations. So, a lunch of donut dining at the kiosk it was.

Wow.  These donuts are a work of art and very very tasty.  Here's some background: "We knew we wanted to make a big doughnut, not just for the sake of it, but because it would be a celebration of it! We spoke a great deal about the texture and flavor we wanted to create and tested the dough recipe for months. Once we finally achieved what we wanted, we developed our flavors and opened quietly a few weeks after that. Through the testing we also realized that we wanted to make the doughnuts in small batches throughout the day so anyone that came to the store would experience the incredible joy of a fresh doughnut."

Most of Dough's donuts are yeast style--and the choices are impressive:  blood orange, dulce de leche--almonds, cinnamon sugar, plain glazed chocolate-cocoa nib, cafe au lait, salted chocolate caramel, toasted coconut, mocha-almond crunch, hibiscus, passion fruit, nutella, lemon poppy, and chocolate chipotle to name the generally-available flavors.  The main cake-style donut flavors are lemon buttermilk with lemon zest and sour cream with Mexican cinnamon sugar (others are available from time to time).I sampled two flavors--the salted chocolate caramel (extraordinarily decadent) and the lemon buttermilk cake donut- (dangerously good).  My only regret is that I was eating solo and would have greatly appreciated a fellow donut traveler and taster to experience more of their luscious flavors. You won't be saying d'oh at Dough--don't miss it!
