Welcome. I started blogging about donuts to coincide with the 2016 presidential inauguration. Initially, I explained my obsession with donuts like this: “they’re delicious, it's silly, and in a world so riddled with serious issues, donuts provide comic, tasty relief.” Over the last few years I have come to realize that a love of donuts is universal and can translate and enable dialogue across cultural, political, economic class, and gender lines. I haven’t met a cab or LYFT driver who was not willing to engage in a discussion about donuts—which gradually evolved into other topics. So, with that, I’d like your help. Please share your donut experiences with me (at wendonutopia@gmail.com) and while you’re munching on donuts, use that experience as an opportunity to listen to others' points of view. It works.

Crave Grounds, Scottsdale, AZ - March, 2018

Opened in late 2017, we enjoyed visiting Crave Grounds (North Scottsdale) in March of 2018.  Their niche (like so many others these days) is mini donuts--make your own.  Their donuts are all cake donuts and there are at least 40 flavors.  All flavors are based on yellow mini cake donuts--the variety is in the icings and toppings.  On our maiden visit, we ordered:  birthday cake (vanilla with rainbow sprinkles), cinnamon roll (maple, cinnamon sugar, cream cheese drizzle), coffee cake (mocha, cinnamon streusel, caramel drizzle), desert tortoise (chocolate, pecans, caramel drizzle),grand canyon (chocolate, peanut butter drizzle, chocolate drizzle, nutella drizzle, shaved chocolate, pinch of salt),  chocolate chip, oreo, samoa (like the Girl Scout cookies), snickers, toffee coffee (mocha, health, caramel drizzle, pinch of sea salt), smore's, cinnamon sugar, ginger sugar, and plain frosted rounds of chocolate, lemon, mocha and vanilla.  As is obvious from the list, Crave Grounds (they also do coffee) gets an A+ for marketing and concept.  However, we did not sample the donuts until several hours later after dinner, and they get a C+ for flavor. They were truly adorable, but the flavor (disappointedly so) was greatly lacking.
