Welcome. I started blogging about donuts to coincide with the 2016 presidential inauguration. Initially, I explained my obsession with donuts like this: “they’re delicious, it's silly, and in a world so riddled with serious issues, donuts provide comic, tasty relief.” Over the last few years I have come to realize that a love of donuts is universal and can translate and enable dialogue across cultural, political, economic class, and gender lines. I haven’t met a cab or LYFT driver who was not willing to engage in a discussion about donuts—which gradually evolved into other topics. So, with that, I’d like your help. Please share your donut experiences with me (at wendonutopia@gmail.com) and while you’re munching on donuts, use that experience as an opportunity to listen to others' points of view. It works.

The Local Donut, Scottsdale, AZ - March, 2017 and March, 2018

Website (Facebook): The Local Donut Scottsdale
Address: 3213 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

The Local Donut is an oasis in a Phoenix area desert of chain donut spots.  They are a boutique donut store in Scottsdale that, in their words: offers“ traditional donuts with fun twist… our donuts  are made Fresh Every Morning. We stick to our roots and make traditional donuts like the traditional Glaze. We also add our own fancy style donuts that are different from the ones you would typically see around the area. Besides presentation, we make sure our dough has the right amount of taste and texture for everyone to enjoy.”  Their donuts are beautiful, fresh, and different.  The shop is clean and the staff is friendly.  I loved the chocolate glazed old fashioned and  Emily, my other taste tester, thoroughly enjoyed her choices.
Definitely worth a return visit in Scottsdale, Arizona!

Update: Our first visit was March, 2017.  We went back for more in March 2018.  This place is truly a gem; their old fashioned donuts (in many varieties) are quite delicious and Dan, the proprietor, is delightful.  We will definitely make this an annual (if not more frequent) stop!
